A few weeks ago i went out with some buddies who have.. a 03 mach 1 5spd with just borla exhaust, and the other an 98 cobra 5spd stock..we lined them up on a three lane road outside of the city and from a 25 mph roll mach and i took the lead.. then he missed a gear and i took 1st.. i didnt get excited i heard him over rev and i new i couldnt brag.. so the mach and I lined up again and from a 35 roll we was was dead even through 3rd and then 4th and he had me by like a hood length and we had to shut down.. since then i gotten 3:73 gears.. He said his buddy has an 04 gto and he beat him in his mach.. the gto wants to race for money.. we are goin to race at an old private airport in the contry the pavement isnt the best.. do i have a chance i heard the gto's are fast and I dont know if he is just tryin to set me up..my modds are 3:73..udp's, flowmasters, o/r xpipe, 75mm t/b, plenum, 85 mm maf, pro 5.0, straight shot cai, sct tuned.. cant i take him?

the '04 GTO's werent nearly as fast as the '05's. they "only" had the LS1 i believe. the LS2's are a LOT faster. i think ive heard some guys on here saying Mach 1's vs '04 GTO's is a drivers race.......so, with your mods, im gonna go ahead and give you the nod for the win since you could hang with the Mach. good luck. let us know what happens when it happens

 

Itll def be close...from a dig you prolly got him cause GTOs cant hook up for chit ...from a roll itll be a lot closer good luck though

 

A well-driven (that's key) 6-speed '04 GTO can run mid-13s bone stock on street tires. Hope that helps.

if he is stock youll take him, but if not then idk, check his tires, on street tires you should take him, if he is on radials hell get ya

 

I don't know why people think 04 GTO's can't hook up?

A driver with no clue how to feather and ride out a clutch won't hook up, but anyone with half a clue will. The 04 GTO with any decent driver will absolutely rape you. Go from a light up to 60-80 and hope for him to roast his tires. From a roll you don't stand a chance.
