96 GT vs 04 WRX
Who would win in a race between a 96 GT with PI swap, new cams, CAI, exhaust w/ long headers, bauman shift kit, high stall torque converter and 4.10 gears and possibly a dyno tune
vs
04 WRX with exhaust and intake
vs
04 WRX with exhaust and intake

Especially if you get dyno tuned. I always tell people to get a custom tune unless they're really really knowledgeable about tuning their own cars. It makes a world of difference.
Here's a good example involving my own car:
Right after my friends and I did the install taking my car from stage 2 to stage 4, I drove up that weekend to TurboXS to change engine management and get a custom tune for my setup. I dyno'd my car with my off-the-shelf stage 2 map (just a turboback exhaust, stock turbo) from Cobb tuning at 199awhp/197lbft (I was very unimpressed). On this particular dyno, stock WRXs are around 178 awhp.
Before the tune, I uninstalled Cobb's software, reset my ECU and had TurboXS install their UTEC EM and load the "base" stage 4 map. First dyno run was ~218whp. After about 15 dyno pulls, it was at 285awhp/267lbft. The only thing holding me back from the magic 300 hp / torque was the porting on my wastegate which caused it to open up under high rpm boost, bleeding off some power. What did I do? Added a wastegate helper spring so I could hold more boost, longer. When I take it back in to get retuned in the dead of winter, I should be able to run 20-21psi instead of 19 and should be at, if not over 300 hp at the wheels.
What was the significance of that long *** story? lol. There's no substitute for a good tune on any car. Get one of those and the suby doesn't have a chance.
And FWIW, an intake and exhaust won't do **** for adding power on the WRX, unless it's a turboback exhaust.
