question about Vipers
ORIGINAL: SilverBullet5.0
Well obviously, but that goes wiht any car. If an ENzo driver didnt know what he was doing, he has the potential to lose to stock cobalt SS. I just dont see it happening. The guy with the GT has an extreme advantage at the track, but on the street id say the viper does. Especially if its from a roll.
Just my opinion, dont expect much from your GT. Mid 12's are great with a GT with that few mods, but at the same time a viper has a mean powerplant.

so you really dont think that if older guy in the viper doesnt know what to do, such as the launch, that DILOs car wont have a good chance? he has an automatic, so no missing gears for him...a bad driver in an srt10 is more likely to run mid 12s, then the advertised numbers, so that would give dilo a shot...or so i feel.

as i said earlier it will be at the track. im not racing on the street and im sure no 50 year old will either. he has had some fast cars before but has NEVER launched this car so i should get him by ALOT there. Like i said this won't be til spring time then. I'll have suspension work with a stall then. that should be low 12's most likely high 11's there. so say on his street tires what do you honestly think he will pull for a 60'? maybe a 2.2 at best with that much power, stock tires and hes never launched before. i should be pulling atleast 1.6's. also to go with that i'll have heads, cam and the p-51 intake. that should gimme some good power. i can pull 12.6's all day so i am definitely expecting to take take a second off with all that work. I think i can take him to be honest. If he was someone who attended the track a few times then i think it'll be close but this is just his car to show off in. im just trying to see what they run in the 1/4 and where they trap so i can compare.
overall the car is obviously better stock for stock i mean you can't even compare but i think i will have what it takes come spring time. i mean my 12.6 is on a 2.0 pretty much and i know if the track was open longer i could hit lower.
silverbullet i mean what do you think i will run when i get this work done and what do you think a 03 viper convertable will run? im not trying to start anything im just wondering since you are the one thats saying no so i figure you are educated with vipers? and that maybe i could learn something.
if he hasnt ever launched this car, i would guess that at worst, he will run mid 12s...
here are a few links..
this is with a 2.18 60' time, and 12.23 @ 119..
http://www.dragtimes.com/Dodge-Viper-Timeslip-2399.html
2.16 60' 12.17 @ 120
http://www.dragtimes.com/Dodge-Viper-Timeslip-6100.html
1.992 60' 11.96 @ 123

there was one slower run that i found, but there was nothing listed except for the qm time and mph, no 60'....but these should give you an idea, and they are all listed as bone stock...and i couldnt find on on that site with better than stock tires...

yeah i expect no better than low 12s from this guy. i believe with suspension parts i will be there let alone a stall converter added to that. nevermind the fact that i'll be adding some good hp by then too so its all gonna add up to a guy that still will never have launched his car at that time on street tires though they prolly come with some nice pirellis or something decent.
i think i got him but time will tell and we have to wait til spring time to find out. teh snow is coming lol

i think that if youre running the stock TC right now, a nice big TC will make a big difference for you...that alone may get you into the lower 12s...im trying to recall how much it helped on my car, but its been a while...i just went from 3300 to a 4000, planning to launch around 3800, but my dad (who has the car now since i have no where to store it) coudlnt get traction last time out...and ran 12.73 with a 1.85+ short time...where i was getting into the high 12.60s with a high 1.6x 60 foot time...
anyway, i think that i went from low 13s into the high 12s with the TC...going from a 2500 to a 3300...but i also got a fiberglass trunk lid, and couple other weight reduction items..

yeah im hoping the stall will help me out alot. i figure with suspension and launching higher should get me the jump in the 60' and hopefully i can hold him off the rest of the way.
Id have to agree, a bigger stall would help you out alot. Dont go too big though, this dumbass i know has a 2000 SS with around 370rwhp (cam bolt ons) and put a 4000 stall in it. Needless to say, it runs mid 12's, which is pathetic.
ok I'm way late on this thread.. but I was just reading the first couple pages until you stated your mods and planed mods when you plan to race etc and wanting to race from a roll but he might bet you. Vipers are made for road racing and top end speed as most exotics are.. his aero dynamics give him a GREAT advantage over you top end even with comparable power. He WILL beat you from a roll... kill you. Even if you trap the same in the 1/4. The key with Vipers are they have so much power they have such stiff suspension they ARE difficult to launch. Most of the people who own Vipers do not know how to launch the car, and don't actually care to launch the car. They want to look good, go fast (on the highway) and hit the curves. The Viper is just an extremely difficult car to drive. I think in the 1/4 with the 12.6 you've run you would have a good race with the Viper and owner at hand. I think that with the mods you plan on getting you should be able to beat him in the 1/4. I think that he will rape you on the highway. :-x

And with that nail on the head, i think this thread should die.
