I know the US Air Force used late 1980's Mustang LX 5.0 vehicles to act as a chase vehicle for one of their planes. I had an article about it in Hemmings Muscle Machines with some great pics I wanted to scan and post but I think I left that one at work. Anyway, the idea was to chase a certain plane when it would come in for landing and "spot" the pilots. Somehow the pilot's vision was limited to the point where they couldn't land the plane without an outside observer, so apparently the USAF needed a car that would move.

verts= heavier= slower. LX Notches non-vert are capable of mid-to-low 14s bone stock.

LX's might be capable of mid to low 14's stock, but it's going to take sticky tires and one hell of a powershifter to do it.

99% of your Fox bodies won't break a mid 14 stock.

An LX hitting low 14's stock is about as rare as a 99-04GT hitting 13.8/13.9 stock. It happens, but the odds of it happening are lowwwwwww.

won't break a mid 14 ? takes sticky tires ??? i just posted (and i swear it's the truth) my 1990 LX notch ran 14.31 STOCK!! with crappy all season tires 205/60/16 (that's even a downgrade from stock) the best 60' i got was a 2.24. ...after the full exhaust (and other minor mods, click on link in sig) was put on i got a best of 14.17@101.2 (still with the sucky tires) look at my mph, obviously the car is capable of high 13s' if i had better tires (no DRs' or slicks necessary, just regular good street tires). and no i didn't even powershift it, if i did it would've probably broke the tires loose. gimmee some slicks and i'll powershift my way to a mid 13 GUARANTEED!! ...i'd bet my pants on it. take my word for it ...a clean notch will surprise the s**t out of you.

God every time i come on here i learn more and more about how SLOW my car is and it makes me sad

And if the 5.0s are so fast why do i beat my friends 90 LX vert?

you answered your own question, vert=heavy notchback lx 5.0 is lighter than a gt or lx hatch.

1998 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 5.2 13.7
2003 Ford Mustang Mach 1 (5 Speed) 5.6 13.2
Whaaa? Camaro is .4 faster to 60 but .5 slower in the 1/4? How does the Mach 1 make up almost a full second on the LS1 on the top end?

1989 Pontiac 20th Anniv. Trans Am 5.1 14.2
Is this the 3.8 V6 turbo? The 0-60 looks about right (5.1 in 1989 was bananas!) but they ran low 13s. 14.2 is waaay off.
