Default GT killed me

I was on my way home and got off the interstate. Came to the first light of the ramp and a mustang pulls behind me(I dont know which version mind you). I take off easy from the light and he sticks with me. I pull away from the rest of the cars, which gives him room to go around and he just left me. Granted I didnt have a jump and didnt initiate the start I was pretty amazed. For the first time I felt powerless. That gave me new found respect for the GT. The reason I say that is b/c I have a 75 Vette, came stock with 165Hp, Chevy probably didnt post it right though due to gas prices and insurance companies in the 70's, and I smoked a 98 GT with True dual exhaust and manual tranny. I beat hem by a lot. Anyway you look at it I got roasted tonight.

Later I caught up with him, 2 cars back, and a monte Carlo, Ugly bodystyle 95ish, tries to run the GT. It looked close, but you could tell that the GT wasn't even trying and staying with him. I finally got out of traffic and caught up, but the MC stopped and got behind the GT. I missed out on a real kill by seconds. ***t.[:@]

It was the 99-04 model. It only said GT on the back. I was looking at the side and still assumed it was a six. I was wondering what the H*** was going on then I saw GT and dual exhaust cut-outs in the rear bumber, so...

did it sound like he had exhaust work done? if he was stock, you probably could have taken him with some gears.

I think it was a stock system, wasn't too loud. Little bit more than mine. I probably should have dropped it to 2nd quick and not been wondering what it was. My loss. Next time I wont make the same mistake. And in regards to gears, 3.73 correct?

no, 4.10. if you get 3.73s, you'll regret it later. i speak from experience. i listened to the twits on here that say "lots of highway driving, forced induction or 5 speed, get 3.73s. 4.10s will kill your gas mileage." almost anyone that tells you that has never been in a car with 4.10s, or even 3.73s for that matter and just go by word of mouth.

6'er, with cai, dual exhaust (which i've heard actually hurts performance on the 6... could be wrong though), and gears, enough to take down a GT? I still don't believe it would be close. [sm=alcoholic.gif]

At the track i still manged to beat a 6'er with cai, exhaust and a 75shot, by a fairly good margin?

Thanks, b/c that is exactly where I got the 3.73 idea from. I've always wanted 4.10s but everybody was like "with a man. get 3.73s" What is the rearend stock on my car??? 3.23??

It does if they get too large of a diameter on the exhaust. Not enough back pressure so the low end gets hurt. 2-2 1/4" is the largest diameter on the V6 I'd go. 2 1/2 would be the largest on a GT I would go.
