Weird LS1 racing question....
Anybody ever race an LS1 and there rear end snaps? It SUCH a random question but i hear there rear ends (7.5?) are real weak, but never heard of anybody racing them and witnessing it break, anybody?

I've heard of this happening in street races before.
Couple kids i knew from work, one was racing his modded Fox and racing a LS1 Camaro SS
i guess after the guy with the mustang was unsatisfied with the first race, he went from another and they both launched higher and kapow!... i guess teh guy with the Camaro blew up his rear end with 3.73's in it
dont know what he did after that, but eventually he got 4.11's

Oh yeah. The stock rear end in Camaros and Firebirds is pretty weak. Usually it starts leaking around the front seal and gradually the case warps and internals wear out and then one day - BANG! it just snaps, usually when you launch hard or first hit the nitrous in 2nd gear. There are various supposed remedies but nothing really works except replacing it with an aftermarket unit.
The 7.5 10-bolt is very weak and can't handle much more torque than stock, although I've seen a few cut guys cut 1.5 60 fts on them and one guy even pulled the front tires.[:-] He took a lot of weight out of the front end though, and eventually went to a 12-bolt rather than keep pushing his luck. I've seen a lot of them break at the track and one guy I know broke his on a highway onramp on street tires. He has a rear-mounted turbo on his 6-speed Camaro SS and ran 13.0 @ 114 at the track out of fear of snapping that glass rear end.
I've heard of only a few instances of 12-bolts breaking, and then only under a buttload of power. It's my understanding that the Ford 9-inch, preferred by many owners of cars making serious power, is pretty much indestructible.
