Default Coil Springs Compressed

08 GT. I had my wheels full cocked to the left to look at my tire wear. While shining a flashlight up at the new Votgland springs I installed, I notice with the full weight of the vehicle on these springs, the bottom 3 coils are nearly touching each other. Is this normal with lowering springs?

*IF* they are progressive rate, then it is typical for a few coils to be touching. That's how our UPR Pro Series springs are.

Vogland springs are progressive rate, I asked. So it sounds like we should be ok.

It's "normal" because that's how the springs get their "progressive" character from soft to firm as they are compressed. The initial bump travel has all of the coils deflecting, which is as soft as the spring gets. As you compress the spring a little further, the closely spaced coils close up, and you're left with a higher rate because there are fewer coils that still can move.

My understanding is that the closely spaced coils in the Vogtlands are practically closed up with the car just sitting there, and that this was probably intentional.
