does anyone know the difference between the thunderbird sc irs and the 03-04 cobra irs? I was curious cause the live axle is somthing I'm not too fond of and was wanting the irs put on the mustang.

 

If they are interchangeable, I one will not be any better than the other If anything, the Cobra would very likey offer improved performance.

Question.... why is it you are not liking the SRA and considering a swap to an IRS?

 

From what I've been told/read around different forums. The Cobra and Mark VIII/Thunderbird IRS sub-frames are completely different including the upper and lower control arms and the knuckles. Could you make it work? Yes, but it'd take some time. As the only parts that will interchange with each other are the differentials, hubs, hub bearings. Maybe the shocks too (i dunno 100% on that). People I've heard have done it but also note that the axles are 1.3" shorter on the IRS Cobra vs the tbird.

 

The sra is too shaky. every bump you feel and I noticed quickly that the irs removed alot of that feel. I know the pumpkin is interchangable as well and I'd like to gain a lil more gasmileage seeing as the sc pumpkin carries the 2.73 rear gears and a traclok stock. if I could find a decent cobra rear end for a reasonable price I'll go that route
