Default V6 suspension upgrades

Hi guys I'm new here and I mistakenly posted my suspension questions in the V6 subforum befor I discovered this one. I hope I don't break too many rules by posting essentially the same thing here but I'm thinking this is where it should have gone in the first place. Thanks in addvance for any advice.

I've had many Mustangs in my days (mostly fox bodies) but I just got another one, this is my 3rd SN95 and the first non-V8 mustang I've owned. It's a silver 98 V6 5 speed in great shape (1 female owner), but the suspension is shot and I'm looking to make it fun to drive again in the most economical way.

I'm considering Ford Racing B or C springs and Tokico blue shocks and struts. I've already upgraded the stock wheels to 17" from a GT. I don't really care about lowering the car that much, I'm 6'2" and at 54 I don't particularly like getting in and out of low vehicles several times a day. I do however want a nice firm ride and good handling, and I figure not only are the shocks toast in this thing but the springs are probably worn out too. I'd like to use springs that have the least amount of drop but are firmer than stock, and affordable. Any suggestions? Between the FR B or C springs can anyone recommend either one considering my desired outcome?

Also, do these instructions seem legit for replacing struts? I've heard different opinions on the job, like the brakes have to come offf, or the springs have to come out, or you need a spring compressor, etc. but this guy didn't do any of that:

Thanks!

Welcome to MF's, AXD

I was going to "merge" your initial thread with this one, but alas my powers are weak over there

In your case, I would consider the Bullit suspension pack. This was the OEM springs, dampers, sway-bars on the Bullitts from '99+ cars. Is about a 1" drop and designed by FRPP to maintain a nice ride, yet offer an nice little improvement in handling. I am not finding a kit at the moment and not certain it is compatable with your '98

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll probably do this piecemeal, it seems less expensive that way, lol. It's illogical I know, but I can stand $100-200 here and there but if I'm staring at a $500-600 bill I tend to shy away.

Default Tokico Blues vs KYB AGX

So I'm looking to replace my worn out stock struts. I "may" get back into autocrossing at some point but right now I just want a fun, firm front end. I plan on doing the front struts first, then the rear, and then probably FR B or C springs. I don't have a lot of disposable income and the suspension is so worn out (just bought the car) I can't wait till I save up enough to do it all at once.

I've had both of these products already, I had AGXs front and rear on a 95GT that I autoxed and liked them. I had TBs on a 2nd gen RX-7 with eibach pro-kits (also an autox car) and it was amazing. I don't pan on dropping the car more than 1.5", probably less. I'm even thinking of not doing springs at all if I seriously consider autoxing because then I'm bumped out of stock class and would have to do even more to be competitive. It all depends on if the struts alone stiffen the car up enough for me to be happy with it on the street. For this reason I'm thinking maybe the AGXs because I'll have some adjustability there.

Which do you mustang guys prefer between these two and why?

I just discovered Koni STR.Ts as well. If anyone has any input on these vs the TBs or AGXs I'd love to hear it.

Please do not make a second thread, regarding the same issues.

It is important to match the dampers and springs to work together, so you will likely have a pretty rough ride, until you get your springs. During such time, the new struts/shocks may get a little extra wear, as they will be looking to dampen a spring which is too light for them. Dampers and springs are certainly best to purchase at the same time, to avoid these issues. This is why such small increments is really not the way to go

Save up money until you can do this all at one time.

Sorry for the faux pas Jazzer.

I get what your saying re. matching springs and dampers. I think what would be bad is putting on stiff lowering springs with stock dampers. The springs would way overpower the dampers.

I'm under the impression that the TBs and AGXs are both designed to work with stock dampers however. Like I said I'm not certain I am even going to get springs.

Sorry, in my post above I made a mistake. I mistakenly typed "dampers" in this sentence "I'm under the impression that the TBs and AGXs are both designed to work with stock dampers however." What I meant to say was "I'm under the impression that the TBs and AGXs are both designed to work with stock springs however." Sorry for any confusion.

I'd still love to hear anyone's experiences concerning TB vs AGX vs STR.Ts.
