Default Loose steering wheel after lowering

I recently installed H&R SS springs, with Steeda bumpsteer kit, new ball joints and had an alignment done. Now the steering wheel will "turn" about 1/4in either way without turning the wheels/car (if that makes sense), and I also get a heavy vibration in the steering wheel at about 50-65MPH. I know it is not the rims/tires as I had all of them all rebalanced to make sure. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Matthew

the slack could be from the worm gear inside the steering box. more than likely needs tightened a little. the wobble is from the slack. bumps in the road cn cause this when the steering has slack.

Could also be in part to worn (shrunken and cracked) rack and pinion mount bushings.

Really?
Balanced steering wheel?
Get serious man. Steering wheels aren't "balanced".
To the OP,
You say you had new ball joints, I'd suspect either them or the tie-rod ends. Jack the front of the car and look for play when you move the wheels side to side. Make sure your new ball joints are properly seated and there's no play.
The place you had the alignment done should be able to pinpoint your problem.

I'm wondering if either bumpsteer stud isn't fitting the taper in its steering arm properly, either due to a worn hole in the steering arm or the taper on the stud being incorrect for any reason.

Well thanks for the ideas. The rack is OEM and got about 155k miles on it so that might be where my problem is coming from. But Ill go back to my alignment place and have them test it again.

Thanks,
Matthew
