Default T Bird Intercooler

I picked up a T Bird intercooler and wanted to inquire as to why I would want to replace the stock one on my 84 SVO. The T Bird one is a bit larger and has additional plumbing in one corner. Not sure what the additional plumbing is for and where to hook it up to as a newcomer to all this. I bought shocks and the guy threw it in with a few additional parts. Any suggestions as to why I would do this is greatly appreciated.

It is a bit larger, that is about it. But it is only really worth a couple of horsepower, since while the SVO IC is smaller, it is also quite a bit thicker. The real issue is its location. A front mount is a night and day difference.
