03-04 Cobra Internals
I am planning on getting my car up to 550-600 hp soon by adding a Kenne Belle and some other mods, and wanted to know if I should think of getting stronger rods and pistons or would the ones that come stock be strong enough to handle the HP?
im new to the cobra seen as well and looking to get the KB 2.4 and the usual bolt ons, but the IRS is a whole new can of worms to me... what can i do to make it strong enough... or is there a solid axel kit that i can throw back there instead of this IRS poo-poo??
I know there is a solid axle conversion i read in a magazine..I'll see if i can find it again.
550-600rwhp the stock internals can hold. Some people have said to upgrage the fuel system or pump. I cant remember which. Ill check out another forum.
I cant wait til I can put 550-600 hp in my cobra!

Any 94 and up soild rear will work with your car, but 94-98 had a little different axle length. Finding a Mach 1 is ideal if you want to stay with the 3.55 ring and pinion.
Granted at the KB 2.4 power level no stock rear end, solid or IRS can be left untouched.
If you want to upgrade the IRS here are some items to think about adding:
Level 5 halfshafts - $1500
PHP's upgraded toe link bars - $410
Billetflow Diff cover Brace - $150
Upgraded IRS bushings - depends on what you choose - delrin, alum, poly
Differential bushings - again material choice
Upper and lower control arm bushings - material choice.
Sub frame connectors.
A damn soft tire - DR's MT's, BFG's, or slicks
A good set of drag shocks would not hurt either, but I think by this point you would be good to go.
Please note that many people have had great success without using half of this stuff. The key to IRS longevity is NO wheel hop. The stock half shafts are actually pretty tough and can take some respectable power.

ok guys thanks for the advice, sorry it took so long to reply, i actually FLEW to Rhode Island to buy the Mytichrome Cobra, so im waiting for it to be shipped... already ordered a tuner, pullies SLP catted X and SLP LM1's
I put a message in another post on here. You IRS will be fine as long as you don't wheel hop it. The guy that has the 04 that I met was pushin 1000hp with the spay on his and hasn't had a problem. He has the kenne bell 2.4 on it and when he cranked the boost up he screwed up the pistons. He is running almost 800 on motor/kenne bell alone. I would at least put the irs brace in.
