I have an 04GT and so far i have the basic mods--Xpipe, muflers, gears, chip, and throtle body. But it's just not fast enough. Well, I drove a Mach1 this past weekend and there was a BIG difference between it and my GT. Anyway, I have never driven a Cobra before. And by Corbra I mean the ones w/o the supercharger. I can't afford the ones w/a supercharger. But I'm just wondering which one is really faster. A Mach1 or a Cobra? I know that there is suppose to be a 15hp difference between the two but can you really notice it? Because I'm really thinking about getting a Mach1.

 

Honestly before i got my 03 Cobra I test drove an 01 Cobra and didnt feel very much difference from that and my GT. I had X-pipe, exhaust, diablosport chip, and short throw shifter. I didnt think the cobra was that much faster if any at all. I like the mach 1 better though. JMO

 

I think an 01 Cobra vs. an 04 Mach its dead even.. Both of the motors are pretty much the exact same.. The only difference I can really see is one has better gears and one has 15 HP more. Also, one says 'Cobra' and one says "Mach 1'.. I'd rather a Cobra but over all I don't think there is much of a difference..

 

I appreciate the input. But I wonder if the Mach1 has a forged crank, hypereutectic cast alloy
pistons, and sinter-forged alloy rods like the Cobra does?

 

From my understand they both have a forged crank.. However, neither the pistons or rods are forged.. In the 03/04 Cobras yes but the Mach has basically the same engine as the 99-01 Cobras..

I'm in the process of SCing my 99 Cobra.. I plan on running 420-440 WHP on the stock bottom end.. Anything more than that and I'm really risking a blow up.. The rods & pistons on the 99-01 Cobra and Machs are the weak points..

Should be able to get way more power then that. Same engine and ive got about 560 RWHP and 536 ft. lbs of torque, Stock internals. I would say go for the mach, cheaper to buy, and insure. and even with the extra parts the cobra has, the stock Mach suspension with the right tires, and the 2.2L KB will get you into the 10's

 

Love the Cobra to death, but the Mach gets a lighter aluminum block, live axle, shaker hood, 60's style interior, and, oh yea, live axle.

 

depends on what you want to do. My thoughts would be go with the Cobra, IRS=less unsprung weight, better ride, better handling, Not to mention a more exclusive car. The live rear axle is great for drag racing, but other than that, I think the cobra got the Mach Beat. Thier both great cars either way. It comes down to personal prefence.
