Default 96 Cobra I need Advice PLEASE

hey guys i am new to this forum as well as the 4.6 especially the dohc i have a couple problems with the car and i want to do some mods i dont know where to start.

1st problem is the clutch it takes an act of god to push the clutch pedal in and i broke two stock ratchet assy. so i got a steeda adjustable clutch cable and firewall adjuster and a billet clutch quadrant double hook. its still impossible to press the clutch do i need a new one and what should i get i dont know whats in it right now and i cant check cause i am in iraq at the moment but is king cobra any good and will it decrease pedal effort?

2nd problem i have is that i just replaced to maf because when i bought it u couldnt floor it without the engine almost dying now it runs a lot better but it still chokes and pops in the high rpms like 7k and what is the stock gear ratio in a 96 i have horrible traction any suggestions on that?

lol last after my little problems get solved what is the most effective hp gains i can see with aftermarket parts? tuner, chip, headers? any ideas would be great

the only mods that i know of on it are offroad h pipe with 2 ch flowmasters and a cold air intake with k&n and msd ignition i think

any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated thanx

WOw your running your engine up to 7,000 RPM's I didn't know the DOHC could turn that many but ok! It probably chokes and pops because it wants you to shift and not rev it that high.

The king Cobra clutch is a little stiffer than stock but it sounds like it will be a lot softer than what ever you have in there now.
Just FYI you will get better answers in the 4.6 section I don't know why but the people that visit this section don't answer alot of ?'s I just happen to be relly bored today and came in here.

Thats redline and where all the power in your car is made. Revving to that point should not be a problem.

As for the clutch go back to stock clutch cables, they are better pieces.

I had the king cobra clutch in my 97 and it was a SOB to push down.. it was stiff as all hell, but it was still driveable as long as you werent stuck in a traffic jam. normal every day driving it was fine if you didnt mind a workout.

And you dont want to hit fuel cutoff (7 grand) very often.. you need to shift no later then 6800.. When we dynoed mine after about 6500 it really started falling off quick.

I thought Redline was 6800 RPM's on these engines. And I know that all the power is in the higher RPM's

Your car has 3.27 gears stock.A switch to 4.10[or better yet 4.30]gears and a set of Nitto or BFG drag radials will totaly transform your car.As far as tuners go,I've got a diablosport predator, you probably can get 15-20hp using their power tune, but the cool thing is that you can go to their website and download a custom tune just for your car and whatever mods you have done.Plus you can adjust the speedodometer for gear ratio and tire size,as well as adjust you speed and rev limiters, turn off o2 sensors, and change what temperature your fan kicks in.Also if you have a check engine light on you can run a diagnostic to see what set it off.

hmm wouldnt 4.30 or 410 in a 5spd manual be a little much for everyday driving? btw cats can set off the check engine light right??? because when i first got it i took it to ford to put on the diagnostics machine and they couldnt check anything because they said the 02s were priority 1 warnings and they couldnt see anything past that other than some vaporizer or something like that for emissions which i was told is insignificant to the performance of my stang. lol also he wouldnt drive it because of the clutch being so messed up and i had to take him for a test spin that is when he told me that my maf sensor was jacked up and that helped out like 1000% but i just dont understand why it doesnt run to its fullest potential my stock 87 gt would blow this thing away could it have anything to do with the previous owner using regular for like 5 yrs instead of premium?? my friend was also saying something about wishbone suspension or something like that can anyone shed some light on that for me?

ok so i have your advice. My buddy's 96 gt had a spec stage 1 clutch and that mother was a beyotch and a half to get to the floor. He also went thru that clutch in about 3 months! i was like wtf you suck at driving but we found out the clutch was adjusted wrong. that's probably your problem. oh and that **** about not being able to read anything but the O2 codes is bull****. I am a mechanic and i used to work at my local ford dealership and any decent scanner brings up every code the car is saving.
