CV Boot Rear Axle Question
Ok guys I really need help here. My CV boot on the drivers side rear axle tore. I cannot find the boot anywhere. Everywhere I go people are trying to sell me the whole half shaft with the boot. Even Ford?!?!? How can this be? Has any IRS Cobra owners had just the boot replaced. If so where did you get the part? Ford is charging 640 for the half shaft. thats not including installation. My axle is fine. its just the boot rippped. This is driving me crazy!!! Help
i had to replace the axle bearing on one side in my 99 cobra and i tore a small hole in the boot. I dapped a little silicone on it and let it dry and dabbed somemore until i built it up pretty strong it had held and not leaked for about 6 months now!
To be honest, I started to purchase a CV boot on E-bay. Through this distributor, but as I called around, I could not find a shop that was willing to just put the boot on. In order to replace the boot, the axle had to be pulled out. That meant new c-clips new bearings, all that good stuff so I ended just paying to get my exisiting Axle refurbed. It cost me about 175.00 out the door. But it was still the cheapest I could find. I called every Mechanic and CV specialist I could and no one would just replace the boot. They all required the purchase of a new Axle. I hope no one ever has the CV boot go out on them it sucks to have to spend big $$$ for a $12 piece of rubber.
