Piston Rings
Im kinda on the market for a mustang and this 01 SVT Cobra caught my eye. It has some pretty nice mods, but one big problem. The car was posted before and i think it said he had problems with the piston rings. This time it doesnt say it, but i know he didnt fix it because the price was lowered. I was wondering how much would it cost to get this fixed? Should i just stay away from it? I would only do it MAYBE if he would lower the price some. Tell me what you think: Cobra
I'd stay away from it man. If the rings are shot, chances are there was alot of abuse done to this cobra. You might end up ripping the engine apart to replace the rings and find that the rods and pistons are shot also. Maybe from too much nitrous. We've all had our problem cars before, or most, and can say that it's not worth your chances or money. Keep looking because there are some very well taken care of Cobras out there.
99/01 cobras i know suffer from piston rock at TDC . my old 99 smoked like james bonds car, you will need to pull motor and .020 over motor and get new pistons rings bgrs, and all the strech bolts will need to be replaced too. heads, rods, main bolts, and jack bolts, also the gasket set about 500 bucks for every thing, to seal it back up , plus the motors a B to pull and stab.just changing the rings is not going to help > pass on it ! plus you might as well change all the valve guides too, mine where shot all this at 57,000 MILES
