Advice: 99 Cobra
Hello... new to the scene.
Just picked up a clean 99 vert about two weeks ago. Motor has 115K on it. I was thinking about getting it blown. I have seen seme 03 style blowers for cheap, but I was wondering what I would need to get that setup working? Or is the motor too high on the miles? What would you guys suggest? Perf. recall has been done. To be honest, it doesn't feel as fast as I thought it would....
Any info would be sweet.
Thanks,
Nathan

no there not that fast. i had a 99 cobra b4 mine 03 cobra , to put a 03/04 s/c on it would be to much trouble belive me , you would need...completewrecked 03/04 cobra to make it happen , you would need fuel tank and pumps, plus eng wiring harress, computer, intercooler, different pulleys, alt, i mean lots of stuff . plus the 99 has knock senors under the intake were the 03/04 dont. so i dont think its possible . unless you got a wrecked 03/04 cobra.
well they dont really make the power til 3500 4000 rpm, mine felt strong but not like i though it should but i took it to the strip and it impressed me, went 12.9 with 91degree weather and wheelhop, i believe my 60 was 1.9 and all the mods i have are down below, so i think they run pretty good if the recall is done.
Your better off going with a Centri style blower.. Look into a Procharger or Vortech.. They will bolt up to your motor easier and are cheaper.. If you have 115k miles you might want to rebuild the motor first.. Putting a blower on that motor might cause it to go BOOM! Although, I've heard of people running high milage cars and blowers with no problem.. Figure a good $5,000 for a Procharger style blower..
Thanks for the input. I have a feeling I'm just not feeling the powa either... but I think it would impress me at the strip. I was kinda skeptical of the 115K too... but I know it can be done. What can I do without F/I that is going to do a damn? I was thinking gears, exhaust, a tune, and an intake. What ya think?
my 99 cobra had long tubes headders ,no cat h pipe , k/n filter, twin 62mm t/body, center force clutch, underdrive pulleys 3.73s with eiback springs . it ran pretty strong it dynoed at 291 rwhp tq. was 298. without tuning. never took it to track N/A . just with procharger. 11.70s . procharger sucked. just get a 75 shot on it .use it only when you got to . like agaist a vette., but be sure to get it tuned for the 75 shot . jms can burn you a chip of n/a use and nos use. www.jmschip.com they can prob hook you up with a kit too. good luck!
I thought that I may throw out there for you the option of a Kenne Bell blower... Makes great power through the whole RPM band, whereas the others only get to going at higer RPMs... Check out the site, there is a lot of good information that may help you out as well. http://www.kennebell.net/
If the engine was well taken care of, you should be fine unless you go mad with the Boost. But, for that matter, unless you rebuild the engine to handle high boost, you will have the same trouble regardless of how many miles.
