Default Cobra tune

Can you still run 91 octane on a 97 Cobra if you're using a Diablo Predator Tuner?

Not unless the tune is for 91 octane. Most of the time, a tuner has three preloaded tunes when you get it. Sometimes it may have one performance tune for 91 and the other two for 93. If you have the 93 tune uploaded and use 91, your engine faces detonation and poor performance.

So is it worth getting a tuner if you're only going to tune for 91?

It's probably one of the best tools to own. Just because you are only able to get 91 octane doesn't mean that you wont make more power. You can read OBD II codes, fine tune the paramaters(air, fuel, spark), and monitor your engines activities. My suggestion is that you get your tuner programmed for one performance tune w/ 91 octane for daily driving and one for 93 octane for the strip. Just add some HIGH QUALITY octane booster when on the 93 tune. Also, most raceways sell Sunoco or VP fuel and will have 93. What mods do you have, what tuner, and what state are you in?

tuners are one of the most beneficial things you can get for a modern car. It helps really take the restrictive system off your car and makes all its so yoll get the most outve your mods. Diablo Predator is what i will be picking up around xmas, i recommend it

Why does the xcal ask for car specs and choosable tunes and the diablo doesn't? Also, I know they said 15-20RWHP but I know that's BS. So with the parts I said, on a 91 tune, what is realistically the RWHP i will pick up?

I think 15HP is realistic on a slightly modded Cobra. The company that you buy your tuner from should ask you for your mods when you buy one. This way they can program it specifically for your mods so you can get the most out of it. I have the Xcal2 that I bought from Dallas Mustang and they tuned it right in front of me. Also, many companys use SCT to program vehicles during dyno sessions. Meaning, I bought an SCT Xcal2, but I want the safest tune for my S/C car. Now, I can pay $150 an hour for dyno time and tuning while they use my tuner. They will then save the program. Not a bad deal. Not saying the Diablo is not good, but more companys tend to use the SCT program to dyno tune. Texas Hot Rods (El Paso, TX) has one of the best SCT tuning programs available. The owner Brian won't let his techs touch an SCT until they complete the SCT course. They even ask if you have baffles mufflers (Flows) or resonators (Maganpacks).

Anyone else agree that 15hp from just the tuner with light mods on a cobra is accurate?
