i know this has probably been answered many times, but im doing a project at school about cobras, and i was wondering why they didnt make the regular cobra in 2000 and 2002. Could somebody tell me why?

 

the 2000 cobra was delayed because of the engine problems experienced in 1999 in which ford had to make sure their engines were making advertized numbers, but they did make the Cobra R which was remarkable in itself. They made the cobra in 2002 but all models were shipped to austrailia (with an extra pair of fog lights), but the production was cut short at the revealing of the 03 cobra which was a hit from the beginning...need a source?

ok here we go.....the 2000 cobra wasnt made because svt took a year off to fix the 99 cobra problems, hence the release of only the R. They ended up making a few hundred but shipped them to austrialia or somewhere like that. The 2002 was supposed to be a 365hp n/a motor but John Colletti (former CEO of svt) test drove it and was very disappointed. Hence a year was skipped to start the creation of the supercharged terminator. Thats the story shortwise, its a pretty long deal but there you go.

 

What problems did they fix on the 99?

 

the engine didnt make advertized 320...only made 305, so ford had a huge recall and they recieved an intake manifold, cat-back and computer tune to adjust the power to advertized numbers. But not all 99 cobra's recieved this problem, only the first 65% or so
