What the difference? Cobra? GT?
Hey guyz im looking into buying a mustang and was goin to buy a gt. But im thinking about buying a v6 and swaping to a 4v cobra motor. All that i know is thatit is dohc and notsohc.I would like to push over 450 hp when its all said and done, but i hear that the 4.6 motor will only handle 400-450.And you will have toget the forgedkit. Do the cobrascome with them? How much will these motors handle? Is there anything else that is different?Thanx a lot!!!

Well alot of people on this forum are going to suggest just buying a cobra. But if you really wanna do the whole v6 cobra engine swap you are going to have to upgrade EVERYTHING you will need the engine,computer,tranny/complete drivetrain, full dual exhaust, and then ofcourse there is tuning shipping and install costs = tons of money if done right and forged say with a eaton supercharger your looking at 15-20k which means you should probably not waste your money/time and just buy a authentic cobra if you can spend that kinda money. As far as the GT is concerned without forging you probably could safely see 390-420 crank horsepower. You could always buy a mach1 it comes with the 32valve same as cobra except it has the shaker and a different crank I believe. They are awesome cars solid rear and mid 13's stock. Me personally I would buy either a mach or a 03-04 cobra. goodluck
I would also just buy a cobra (actually, I did). I have a 97, and its straight ******* as far as Im concerned. Its a solid car. As for the whole V6 to cobra, I wouldnt do it. As mentioned above, you would have to change everything (the v6 drivetrain couldnt handle the power...it doesnt even have an 8.8 rear end) and the little things that you wouldnt chnge (ie interrior, stereo, etc) are better in the Cobra. I bought mine for about 10k and its pretty swet right out of the box. By the time you buy a sixer and make it fast, youre lookin at way more money.
The cobra blocks and internals also vary on what they can handle. 03-04's come with strong internals that can hold more hp than you're planning on making by a long shot. The 96-01 have weaker internals and are limited to about 400-450 whp (safely). Sure you can go more, but the pistons and rings are prone to go bye after that.
I hope I hit most of what you wanted to know.

ew dont get a V6 and swap.. i hate Fobras.
Just buy a cobra, any kind of year, and its a great platform.
94-95 - 5.0 engine
96-98 - 4V 4.6 N/A
99-01 - 4V 4.6 NA
03-04 - 4V 4.6 S/C

Agreed the swap is going to be pointless cause your going to end up changing so much stuff it will be unreal. Think about it suspension and brakes would also be a big thing to think about its totally not worth it may i dare say it could actully be more expensive...
Ur better off just buying a cobra...trust me u will save money...if the reason is just so u can look like a 6 cylinder im sure u can remove decals and put the decals from a 6 cylinder and once u punch the gas thats were the cobra awakens...so just buy a cobra
if you want to make that kind of power you may as well just go straight for the 03-04 cobra, all forged internals and crank with a cast block and stock supercharged. a pulley swap, intake tune and exhust, mid back and you should see right around 450 rwhp.
