Im about to trade my 67 in for a 96-98 cobra, and i would like to get some info on the strengths and weakness' of these year model cobras. someone help me out
they have forged cranks, their blocks can handle something like 800hp+ if preped correctly, their heads are not the best but can easily be made better with porting or putting on new year cobra heads, transmission (not so sure about) but i have heard it goes pretty early on, they do have a wierd rpm and hp range where the hp goes up and down randomly as the rpm rises, comes with 3:27 gear set, but you really need 4:10-4:56 to get the car into its power range...........i think that is about it
suspension is pretty much the same as any mustang (time consuming), headers are a pain in the *** from what i have seen since the engine is so big, but if you didnt want to deal with it you could just take it somewere. Superchargers are the most popular mod, the engine is good up to about 420 or so then the rods and pistons start to give way, But a simple vortech V-2 with get you up to that power level very easily leaving you with a lot of other things to do, cams seem to be pretty difficult since there are 4 of them, and they need to be timed correcctly to get the most performance. But the good news is the 4v engine responds great to any kind of power adder, and other performance mod
well.......... the easiest way to get that power is to just slap on like a 75-100 shot of nitrous. i just read an article in Muscle Mustangs And Fast Fords where they put a 100 shot on a other wise stock 96 cobra engine and saw 461hp and 329tq at the crank, which would have you between 350 and 400 at the tires. A kit like this would cost about $600 and you would need supporting things like injectors, fuel pump, and a goood tune so you dont blow it up. Now if you dont want to be refilling a bottle all the time which can get expensive, you can buy a basic vortech for a bout $3600+instal and tune. this will give you the power when ever you need it to play with risers/LS1's.just so you know the cobr makes 305 hp at the crank so a 350 mark probably wouldnt be to hard with ported heads, free flowing exhaust system, intake porting, and cam. now you have a pretty decent enginethat isN/A. this willcost you upwards of $4-$5k

i dunno lets say 2k...i dont know yet, being i dont have the car, but soon hopefully.
