Default 2001 cobra reliability

Hello, I'mnew to the Cobra. I was looking at a 2001, well maintained, but high miles (about 60,000). Since I would have to finance it, I was wondering about the long term reliability of it. Assuming I took very good care of it, how many miles should I be able to get out of it before major things starts falling apart?

Thanks, Daniel

I've had mine for 2+ years and put 43K on it. So far, zero problems at 73k. It all depends on if it was taken care of, which most people who buy Cobras do, but you never know.

My Cobra has 60k on it, alot of hwy miles. The org. owner took really good care of it, just got tired of it as a daily driver and traded it in on a BMW. The only reason why I bought it was cause it was clean and it had no mods and of course the price!! The only issue it had was it was is that it washardto shift from 2nd to 3rd. A Specclutch and quandrantand a good shifter will soon be solving that problem. As far as future use on a Cobra low mods+ good driver= a ton of miles. I`ve got buddys who are still driving in the deep 100k with the stock block + mods on there Cobras and GTs.Anytime your looking at buyinga Cobra or any sports car you have to look hard at the previous owner and his track record with the car. Look over the car with a fine tooth comb and you will see the tell tell signs of abuse and neglect. Good luck

only 2 issues I've had with my Cobra in the 2+ years I've had it.

1) IAC module. - no big deal, less than $100 and 5 minutes to change
2) TOB - great excuse to swap in a T-56 :P

Okay. Well my brother had a 1998 Mustang GT and it had 175,000 miles on it. NOT ONE PROBLEM AT ALL!!!. No knocking, noises, shifting problems, etc.... He just traded it in and bought a 2001 cobra and it has 53,000 miles on it. About a week and a half after he got it the tranny went. (covered under warranty luckly), and so they put a rebuilt one in there. But ever since he bought the car it hasn't wanted to go into gear and pretty much just having problems with the clutch and crap. I told him to get a new clutch, fly wheel, and quadrant and that should fix the problem. Waiting on that to see what happens. I had a 1996 v6 mustang with 135,000 on it an once again NO PROBLEMS. I now have a 1997 SVT cobra and NO PROBLEMS. When it comes down to it the 1996-1998 mustangs were built alot better. But as far as these newer styles it all depends if it was taken car of or not. So make sure you do your research on the specific car that you want to buy before making the final decision. Get all the records on it. Get the previous owners info, all documents as far as maintenance goes and make sure you know what you are getting on your side of the deal.
