Default detonation help??????

howdy, i just installed a kenne bell twin screw on my 97' cobra and i am having some problems with detonation. i put the kb boost a pump on it also and turned it all the way up and i still have the problem. it is only happenning from 80% to WOT. if i ease the throttle down i can take er' on up through the rpm's. so i guess i need some input from someone who has done this or who knows what can fix my problem. there is no "tune" on the car. i did everything the instructions said. i just want it fixed so i can eat some camaro's and $hit some imports. thanks

A S/C should never be installed without a tune, ever! Get a dyno tune. That'll solve your problem.

BTW, stay out of boost until you get your car up on a dyno and get your tune straightened out. You're risking your motor by getting into boost knowing you have detonation.

96-98 cobra's have one of the strongest blocks put ina mustang, they will handle just about anything you throw at it. But the pistons are a diff strory, with just the slightest detonation you are at HIGH risk of (cracking,melting.....) your pistons. Our cars run real good with s/c but you cant run them w/o a tune or run it lean. Get a dyno tune and get your a/f straightined out. I have a Brand New Msd Dis-4 HO ignition for sale if you are interested, it is the High output version for High boost app. andit prevents detonation, has two step, timing retard, rev limiter...... I paid over $600 for the Msd box and harnesses and never even had them installed. I have been trying to sell them because I broke one of my axles and need the money to get new axles. If you are interested just PM me an offer and we will go from there.

Kenne bell is full of crap, lol. You probably just need to upgrade your igniton to put out a more powerful spark. What kind of sparkplugs are you currently using? and What gap are they at? What boost are you at?

WTF? Did they really say that?... [&:]

Get tuned, and your car will no longer detonate.
