Default Engine Stall Issue

Thanks for advice on the last couple of topics I posted. I'm having another issue with the Cobra (it's been in the garage mostly until now) that I need some help with.

This has happened three times, now. Once to me, and twice to my roommate when he and I drove the Cobra around.

1.When he drove it and brought it to a complete stop at a stop sign, the engine stalled. He had pushedthe engine fairly hard beforehand, and hadbraked really hard at the stop sign.

2.Two minutes later...the engine stalled when he turned off the car, turned it on, and was about to start moving forward. (Not an issue of clutch--the clutch was still fully depressed.) So, I tried changing out the fuel filter to see if this was an issue. At the same time, I changed out the brake fluid and applied anti-squeal to the back of my front pads to reduce the nasty squealing I was getting when I braked.

3. The third time was a few days ago when I went to pick a friend up from the airport. I was going about 45 mphtowards I-5, and when I came to the turn to get on the freeway, the car just died on me altogether. Stalls almost *never* happen when you're shifting between high gears, so I think something other than human error must be to blame. After it stalled, I had to crank on the wheel, which was really resistant without the power steering aiding it, and try to restart in motion. The restart worked, but the engine bucked badly. When I got the car off the freeway, it was bucking worse, and I just managed to get it home.

A check engine light came on after the car stalled, 1516, Intake Manifold Runner Control failure (Bank 1). I've gotten this error before, and I do think it is a problem, since power is sort of lacking in the high revs (past 3250 or so). I have the intake off right now, so that I can clean it all up as per the great tutorial that the SVT Mustang Cobra Club of Houston posted online, but I'm still worried that if the care is stalling inexplicably, this is not the only issue, and that the engine is not able to diagnose something. It doesn't make sense to me or my roommate that the engine would *stall* if the IMRC is gunked up. The flow of air would just be a little greater or less than it should be. He drives a 95 SHO, so he's dealt with the IMRC before, so he's convinced something else is wrong with the engine. So, what is the issue if it's not the IMRC or the fuel filter??

Any thoughts?

P.S. While I have the intake off cleaning the IMRC,I'm going to clean the injectors too, in case they're to blame...

Well if it threw a code for IMRC then definitely clean it per the tutorial, its a great guide to cleaning them the proper way.

On a side note, did you check your IAC valve(Idle Air Control) the IAC controls your car at idle and can cause the car to kill when its gummed up and stuck closed, it doesnt allow enough air into your engine to keep it idling.

Thanks, Wesley. I had an issue with the IAC on my Outback--I'll take the Cobra's out and give it a good clean.

I don'tthink that explains the stall while driving, though. Any thoughts on that?

You'd be suprised what effect certain parts could have on the overall operation of the car. Also, for ****s and giggles, check your spark plugs see how they look. Also if you have access to a fuel pressure gauge(it goes on the schrader valve on the fuel rail) check your fuel pressure.

Will do. Do have access to a fuel pressure gauge--and I'll give that a check when I've got the IMRC job finished.

Plugs look fine (though plugwell seals are leaking--oil in the wells right now).

And I'll check the IAC. Thanks again for your advice!!
