so tonight after work i went for a ride in my 97 mustang cobra, i was at a light and i happen to see that this maxima was beside me in the right turn only lane and he didnt look like he was gonna turn, so i got ready to punch it as soon as it turned green, and sure enough he was trying to cut me off, and just as i said i punched it, the problem starts here. i was SLOWLY pulling away if that even, now we come to a highway and he is right next to me and i again tried to see that maybe since im new to the 5 speed i just messed up at that start, were doing about 35-40 and i just floored it when i saw that he did too and again i wasnt pulling away as fast as i thought i would. at this point im thinking that hes not stock so i pulled my window down and my friend asked him and he said he is stock. so finally i came to realize that it was either my granny shifting style that made me seem much slower. or its the fact that i just got the car and i havent even given it a tune up or anything..

any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated, oh and BTW as far as i know the cobra is bone stock the previous owner didnt do anything to it.

 

well you just found out your cobra isn't very fast... it's normal for the maxima to actually hang with you - him and his 260-270bhp... your problem is your gears and inexperiance... you did beat him, but not by much - the cobras are easily awoken with a set of gears... get some gears and tires and you should be set for a little bit.. and just practice your shifting..

 

i just got a set of four bridgestone potenza re750's at the begining of this week.. what kind of gears would you suggest? and also i think that my car is badly in need of a tune up cause sometimes it feels slugish.

The Nismo Max is a very fast car (4dr family type)and is some what of a sleeper. Yeah your car might need a tune up and bad shifting, etc.... , but your still in a 97 Cobra, great car but it isn`t that fast stock.+ 1 gears and while you at it get a better shifter too. Also you need to know Import Target ID, in a nut shell you need to know what imorts you can mess with and the ones you can`t! A blown Nismo to a stock NA Stang is a tough match up. Good job with your kill. My advice to you is go get the gears (3.73`s) a shifter and start saving for a nice SuperCharger and all the extra goodies that go along with it! Good luck

 

uhmm, since when are the Maximas supercharged??? They have a 255bhp 253lb ft tor N/A V6... The Altima has an option motor of 270bhp but it's still NA

 

They both have the same 3.5L option motor its a de-tuned 350z engine so they arn't slow comparied to ur cobra. Also a tune up can make a large difference. So get a set of gears and a tune up and go find that guy again.

 

on an n/a car id go with 4.10s for gears if not 4.30s

i would say 3.90 or 4.10 if it is your daily driver
