Default The T45 Tranny.

Just purchased the Cobra and I relized that it whines a bit in 3rd and 5th gears. This Normal for these trannys? I mean Of course its not normal but do they traditionally whine when they are worn? I know the T-5s did it.

Mine had some :Whining" while the clutch was pressed in in all gears and now I have no 3rd 4th and needs new synchros for 5th. T-45 = JUNK!!!
I'm replacing it with A T-56 hopefully. I would take it easy untill your ready to replace it.

Dont Quote me but the T-5 will not work!
You need a 3650 or a 3550 with a Modular Bellhousing.

Whatever you do, don't replace it with a 45. I did this twice before I got smart and ordered a TKO 500.

here is a link about 56/500/600 swaps:

The 45 is junk. However, just because its making noise doens't mean its on its way out. Both times I ruined mine it was grinding 3rd/2nd before it died. If its not grinding, your probably OK for now.

One thing, DONT powershift/speedshift a 45. This just really seems to tear them up, both times I ruined my 45 I was shifting hard/fast and got a big grind,

Yea its not a grinding noise but more of a whine. It seems to get quieter after it heats up.

This is exactly how mine went out. Went to shift into 3rd it ground a little and I tried to slam it and that was all she wrote.

If you have normal gear noise, adding a set of my shifter gaskets (I have them for the T-56, T-5, T-45, etc.) will quiet it down. It's a very inexpensive and effective mod. http://stangshiftergaskets.com/index.htm
