96 Cobra darting around
Hi All!
The ol' snake seems to be wandering a bit lately. On roads where thereare depressed wheel tracks the car grabs the tracks and pulls left and right. Sometimes you have to hold counter-steer in to gostraight (like making a tractor ride against the furrow). It still grabs ruts on roads with less depressed wheel tracks, just not as bad.
68k on thecar, original struts and shocks. I puturethane rack bushings in last year. Wondering if the tie rod endsand ball joints are shot?
The tires are BFG G-Force T/A (KDW) 245/45 ZR17. They have about5k on them.
Any thoughts?

I recently bought a 96 Cobra and have noticed the same problem. The first thing I did was buy new tires and got it aligned. It no longer pulls, but it still drifts around a lot when I hit grooves or dips in a rough road. My only other thought is that I just wasn't used to the close ratio steering (my daily driver is an F150).
Let me know if you come up with anything. Otherwise I'd appreciate any other advice from others.

OK, I will get it aligned and check it out. On really good roads it is much better, but you can still feel it trying to grab the cracks (just not nearly as bad).
I will let everyone know what I find out.

Okay, I think I fixed my darting/wondering front end problem. I mentioned before that I had it aligned, but that didn't fix it. This weekend I put on new struts and it has made a big improvement. It looked like the old passenger side strut wasn't bolted to the strut tower in the right place, so there wasn't enough camber on that wheel and it didn't match the driver's side. You see could see marks on the strut tower where the struts were positioned from the factory. I matched those, both front wheels now have a little camber, and it rides great without any darting or wondering around with the road. When had the alignment done, they must have only adjusted the toe. Anyway, hopefully that helps.
