when it comes to compression test, its not just the highest number. each cylinder should be no more than 10% different from eachother. and i believe it should be around 190 psi per cylinder

Everbody around here is telling me that it's nothing more than my rings and that I just need have them replaced and NOT do a total rebuild.I've been told that this cost anywhere between $800 to $1200...does that sound about right? Thanks.

do the compression test, then we'll see. I was in the same position as u about 3 years ago, with the same symptoms. It was not my rings, it was my motor! two dead cylinders! I know u would luv to think that its just ur rings, because its way cheaper, but do the test first, then take the next step....

yeah looks like you have a dead cylinder. rebuild the whole motor. you have to take everything out to get new rings anyways youll just need to buy main bearings and rod bearings so itll be like another 150 bucks. if your paying a shop i dont think theyll be a labpor charge becuase they have to put it back together anyways. dont tell them you want a total rebuild though. tell them after they put the rings on. they might requireyou to do a total rebuild though. where are you located? my mechanic can rebuild your motor in less than 8 hours

I'm in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. What kinda price am I looking at? One of the Ford Dealerships here toldme a total rebuild was like $5,000. That BLOWS! If that's the case for a rebuild, wouldn't I be better off to justbuy a wholenew shortblock for cheaper? Thanks for your info.
