Im now looking for different heads for my 99 cobra. Summit doesn't seem to have them and trick flow doesnt make them.
Also, there is somewhat of a ticking noise coming from the engine and a noise that sounds somewhat like an intake leak. How would I find if it has been taken in for the recall?
Thanks

I would get your heads worked on or try to find a buy and trade shop so you can get already worked on heads and send yours as the core. Less down time.
The intake sound it probably not a leak as you would have idling and driveability issues. Those intakes are kinda loud from factory. You prob just got worried about the tick sound and put your "ears" on! The tick is probably the notorious head tick. I don't believe there was any wanrranty recalls for that, but as far as other stuff there's something like a carfax, but it gives vehicle specific reports of what had been done at the dealerships. Obviously not what was done at the local garage. It would tell you all recalls that were done and any major mechanical item that may have been repaird or replaced. Technology on that stuff has come a long way and it quite intriguing. I cannot remeber what the report is called. sorry

The tick didn't start showing up until 03. I'd bet on an exhaust leak or bad idler bearings first.
For "the fix", look behind the alternator and there should be a blue or green dot on the upper intake. Or calla Ford dealership, the service writer will be able to find out with your VIN.

there arnt many aftermarket heads, but fords improved versions will fit. terminator heads, ford gt heads, and even lincoln navigator heads offer improved flow stock to stock, but as everyone said above, your best bet would be to re-work your heads you have now.
ok, thanks everyone. last thing I can think of is...Would it be better to take it to a Ford Dealership and have them work on it and pay more than to take it to a local "every car" mechanic and pay less? Cause I've had problems with him before, but its VERY close to where I live.
sounds like a good idea. its hard finding one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg somewhat close. as for taking off and putting on the heads I cant do all that yet. all I know how to do atm is put on basic bolt-ons.
Yeah, I would pay a little more to have a Ford dealership or someone that is very familiar with the modular motors. They must be timed exact or catastrophic failures will result. Most side garages have no clue how to time a 4v engine! Take it to a place that does them on a regular basis or atleast has had some training or people around with expertise for questions. Besides I think the dealership is only $20hr at most more than the schmuck shops around the corner and they only charge you for the time the Book says, not overcharges because they didn't know what they were doing and then for diagnostic fees on top of all that. Just my .02 and experience working atbothdealership and a schmuck garages.
