I would get LT headers since they actually give you some nice gains and increase your sound tone. As far as striaght pipes hurting you, these cars aren't like the older carbuerated ones that require a certain amount of backpressure. The only thing you will have a crappy sounding exhaust. Some reports of low rpms driveablility may be of issue, but I honestly don't think tis is your problem.
Do you have a tune? Is your CEL light on? When is the last time your fuel filter was replaced?<<<< I would check these out first before spending money on headers.

Yea I have a 99 as well. mine does the same thing sometimes when I shift. It sounds like a thumping noise. Not sure if its something wrong. Maybe the pinion angle is off? not too sure why it does that.

BTW to answer your other question....if you get headers LT's FTMFW

If you really want headers get LT's but neither will gain you that much power, especially for the money. Don't expect more than 10 hp.

I know the exhaust is probably not helping your sputtering problem but a set of gears will help the car wake up before 4k RPM as well. 4:10's are good and a lot of the guys on here like 4:30's too...

The exhaust has nothing to do with his problem. He could run straight headers and have zero driveability issues. All these back pressure stories are for carbureated cars!!!!
LT's will def gain MUCH more than shorties and I promise more than 10hp even on an N/A car!
And how does a set of gears help his sputter?

Ohh, the "fix" had nothing to do with what he is dealing with!
These answers suck. You think people would know what they are saying before they type anything
