Default Heads, Block Compatability

Hey what heads and blocks were the same for different year cobras? i.e. is a 2001 block the same as a 2003 and so on. Also are there any other cars that shard the same heads or block.

they are not the sam blocks except the 03-04 cobras. the heads should be compatible for all years of the cobra from 99-04. not 100% on the head interchangability but fairly certain. maybe someone else will chime in.

cast block in 03-04 my guess would be porting or valve size maybe different for 99-04 but would still bolt up

96-98 usedthe teksidblock and b series heads, first 60-70% of 99's used thesame teksid block as the 96-98, but then switched to awindsor block. the other30-40% of99's share thewindsor blockwith the 01's, and all 99-01 share the same tumbleportheads. 03-04 uses the same block as the GT but has a newer (and the best long term production mustang) head style than the 99-01's. heads should match up fine. cam lobes, intake angles and other small tweaks differ these heads in order to broaden the power curves, nothing drastic. but so no one connects the two, this interchangability is not how they became "modular" engines.

I have a 99. Told heads are a bit of a problem on 99 but not sure of reliability of 01. The 99 head problem is why the Mach 1's came out with stronger heads(aka longer bolts possible improved gasket). I am having my 99's ported now by MMR in CA due to "leaking" of head gasket

All 96-04 4.6 and 5.4blocks are compatable with all 96-04 cylinder heads.
