So I just bought a 2001 cobra, to replace my cobalt ss/sc. Im not exactly sure what extras might be under the hood however. I know it has a magnaflow exhaust, but there is a weird sticker by the engine bay. It is a ford sticker that says PCM upgrade, has a bunch of numbers, then goes on to say it is an official ford part. Are there performance flashes by ford for cobras? If so, cansomeone show me whereI can look up the info on it. Im dying tofigure outwhat extra performance goodies the car has!

Thank u very much. Ive wanted this car since I was 16, so its kind of my "dream car". Got it with little over 40k miles, and everything seems to be in top working order. Didnt want to get it till late March, but the dealer claimed it would sell before that so I decided to buy it early. Costed about $16,000, so I couldnt pass up the oppertunity.

 

WOW...$16K with only 40Kmiles on it? good find. I kinda wish i coulda got mine a bit cheaper. payed the same amount as you but mines a 99 and had 64K. im soooooo glad i bent over and let them rape me on the price. but hey im an impulse buyer...

as far as the PCM upgrade...just call the ford dealer and have them check.you can probably take it to a shop and have them run it too. GL with that

I found the dealer who did it. They had upgraded their computers and could no longer tell me what had been done.

 

YEA! THATS IT! I still dont know what it is, but I do know that I had done a stage 2 upgrade done to my cobalt ss, and GM put a similar sticker in the same spot to letdealerships know its a warranteed performance upgrade. Im thinking maybe its a warranteed ford tune possibly? That would be pretty awsome.

Does anyone know what a safe redline is for this vehicle?

 

Write down the dealer number, then find out which dealer it was. They should have it in their records. I did all of this myself but with the computer change they couldn't see details of what was done.

 

Its almost like a recall but more simplifed. They dont do them anymore, few years ago they did them commonly. One of the techs at the ford dealership I work at was explaining to me.

 

could be that the computer was replaced or simply reflashed due to some simple driveability problem. Hopefully you have some secret hidden supercharged tune.....lol I wouldn't take it as you have anything drastic done, but more of actually your car has had some problems in the past! Have you done a vehicle check form the dealer? I forget what it's called but they can tell you everything that the car has had done to it if it went to any major dealer to get serviced for warrany and non warranty related issues?

 

IDK if I'm right or wrong but maybe it had a PCM issue in the past and needed a re-flash?? IDK...

I got my 01 Cobra w/ 40,667 miles on it for $14,200 in June 07... Hell of a deal!
