Just want some input. Please
OkI really need some opinions, im 18 years old right now about to go to college. I have a 01 V6 right now and over the summer i want to get a new car. Im looking at an 01 Cobra. What does everyone think. Will it kill me insurance wise. I've never been in a wreck, never gotten a ticket and i've got a couple of quotes online and it says insurance will be about $290 a month. Do yall think that is right. Is it a smart move, I have a good job and i've been saving for awhile. is it worth it. Thanks in advance!
If you can afford it, and you want it. Then why not? If money is an issue - you can also look at 98' Cobras... save you some money and probably insurance also...
But, if you want and can spend that much money on it, then sure.. it's a good car.

Well here's the boat im in. Lets say i have $4500 saved up. My car is worth about 6k. Plus i should get graduation money. But i have to pay for college. My dad said i wont be able to afford it but i dont see how. Is the insurance gonna be over $300?
Go on autotrader, pull a vin# and call your insurance company and find out. Are you trying to avoid a car payment? If so, a 10k 2001 Cobra, that you want to buy is going to be hard to find...
well man, I don't know what your finances are like.. but I jus bought a 2003 Mach 1 with 20k miles on it for 15k... so, you might be able to get it cheaper then the 15k... Also, try looking for a Mach... they're out there... a couple of model years newer... banks don't like financing cars a little older...
But as far as insurance goes... do what I did; Grab a vin# (all cobras are the same except Hardtop vs vert), and call your insurance company. They will give you a pretty accurate quote... This way you know what youre going to be paying, and expect to have to put premiem gas in the car...

Premium in your non tuned v6 actually will hurt your mpg... I mean in reality you're saving a whole 1.50 by not putting it in a gas tank... but, premium in a car made to run on 87 will cause it to burn uneven.. and you actually lose gas milage.
damn thanks man i didnt know that...i kinda new with cars... whatever car i get, 03-04 GT or an 01 cobra, i known i want borla stingers, 3.73's, jlt intake, sct tuner chip, 70mm throttle body. Thats probably it...
Now honestly what would you do between an 03-04 GT or a 01 cobra...what would be better. There about the same price. Cobras faster, GT is newer. What would be the better route.

The 4v is a much better powerplant.. the 2v's are really hard to make fast... both cars have a weak bottom end so you can't do much - they have the same tranny. The only thing that sucks about the Cobra is the weak irs.. if you plan on doing any drag racing it's the weakest link of the car... but a lot of Cobra owners do 4.10s at least, and some do 4.30's.. and intake is the worst mod to do (only a handful of rwhp - on the actual dynos i've seen) same with the throttle body...
What do you really want out of the car? Cobra with 4.10's, and exhaust will get you deep into the 13's with some practice... which isn't to shabby... Could also build the rear end, or even swap it for a straight axle if you wanna drag race it a lot... put a blower on it... a ton of things you can do... but if you just want a respectable street car... 4.10/4.30 Gears, exhaust and a short shifter are probably your three best modifications to do...
