Default gas fumes in the car

hey guys. i just bought a 95 cobra last week. it is a great car except for the gas fumes i have to endure every time i drive the car. it just passed emissions. i had the car checked out at a ford dealership on their computer. they checked for fuel leaks and codes from the computer. at first i was wondering if the o2 sensors were in need of replacement, but the dealership assured me that if these were bad, a code would have come up. since this i am wondering if maybe i have a bad charcoal canister. does anybody have an idea of what the problem might be? I would appreciate the help.

my problem occurs even during normal driving. It's more than just a fuel smell though. The smell kind of gives you a sore throat after a while. So it's not just a rich fuel smell, but also a kind of burning sensation that occurs when you breathe it in.

that is when the problem is the worst. I'm looking to fix the problem, not just cover it up. I'm going to try the charcoal canister and see if that works. I'll let you guys know if it helps.

It has the smell when it's full or almost empty. No new fuel pump. The dealership says there are no fuel leaks. I'm not sure if there is an exhaust leak. Would that make the fuel/chemical smell?
