help need new transmission
I just took the motor out of my 96 cobra, and since its out Id like to replace the t-45. What are my options for better transmissions without having to make any adjustments. I want something that would be a direct replacement. I dont plan to be putting any crazy amounts of power through it, im planning on about 350-400 rwhp.

There are endless options.. T56 6spd or maybe a TKO would be ok... Could also build the T45 which would be the cheapest option if you're not going to be running high hp....

350-400hp??? Def not 350-400rwhp! Those stock are 250-260rwhp. With the best heads/cams, ported/polished intake and all the bolt-ons you won't hit 400rwhp. You would need a complete custom build to get yourself at 400rwhp. that or a supercharger. I have all bolt-ons possible including LT headers and didn't even hit 300rwhp. My T-45 is perfectly fine and it's a tough tranny for the power that yor supplying it. If it has under 80kmi I would leave it alone. If you have shorty headers they are a breeze to drop out later on. I would only spend the extra money on a rebuild if you were installing LT's or def going s/c'ed. a TKO5 or 600 will run about $1k-1800 depending on used or new. There are still things needed to buy though. The only prob those tranny's have is reverse gear, who caes. It's a much stronger solid and reliable trans. than the newer replacement 3650!

RE: help need new transmission
I just purchased a98 cobra with about 63k on the transmission. Reverse doesn't always want to go or hold for that matter. You have to be real easy on it to get it to hold, and usually hold it in yourself. I've had one other Cobra and a 04 Mach 1. Neither had this many miles, but I never had an issue with it holding in reverse. The car does have 4:10 gears, and a 3 stage clutch. I've never had 4:10s, always had 3:55s. Are 4:10s naturally stiff, which would affect the transmissions smoothness??
Any help would be great. I can explain more, so please reply
