MIL Eliminators
Good evening everybody!
I'm about to have my x-pipe and exhaust installed in my 2001 Cobra, and I know it's going to trip my Check Engine lights. I'm really having trouble finding MIL eliminators right now. All the websites just say out of stock. There's some O2 extenders on texashotrods.com that talk about turning off the check engine light, but is that actually right or did they put that in the wrong place?
Will not having the MIL eliminators hurt anything or will it just cause that annoying light to come on? If it won't hurt anything, I'll just suffer with the light for a little while. I know I could get a tuner and turn it off, but I plan on getting a 5.0 shortblock and Amazon tune soon, so a tuner is pretty pointless.
Any help is greatly appreciated
Chris

i just put an x pipe on my cobra, the light came on(of course), i don't think it will hurt anything, but mine seems to idle a little lower and my rpms drop fast when i push the clutch in. but i just bought a diablo tuner and hopefully turning the o2 sensors off will make it better.
If everyones out of MILs then you'll be fine without them. The front 02 sensors do all the engine calibration, and the rear o2s just make sure the cats work by checking to see that the front o2s reading is higher than the rears. When an off-road pipe is installed, the reading difference (or lack there of) trips the MIL light and would cause you to fail emissions testing. There is no air/fuel mess-ups, no mechanical significance of the rear o2 sensors, purely for emissions.
