Vortech blower question
Hey fellas i need some confirmation on this setup and what im tryin to do. I have a buddy who builds 302's and i mentioned what im tryin to do to my 01 cobra. I do know that i want to put a Vortech centrifigul supercharger on the car. He says that if i do that and just put in some 4.10's and run some good full exhaust on the car headers back that i will easliy be in the 11's. True or False?

RE: Vortech blower question
False. You need 4:30's and a twin screw to get into the 11's. Twin screws make all their power around 3k rpms where as centri create their peak power at redline. Big difference between a 500rwhp centri car vs 500rwhp twin screw car. You can get there on a centri but not on stock internals. sorry.
My car will have more power than a stock 03 cobra with 10psi centri, but I bet they'll be walikin all over me until higher rpms and then we will be side by side. If you can afford it go with a twin screw. Also, 5.0 guys no nothing about mod motors. They are totally different

RE: Vortech blower question
With Slicks, 4:30 gears and the centrifugal blower, plus some supporting fuel mods you should easily hit an 11 sec. pass. Of course you also have to know how to drive. And it also depends on how much boost you are running, 8lbs, 10lbs,etc. 400-430rwhp will give you 11 second time slips. Also, the roots blowers provide instant low end boost, while the centri's gove you more on the upper part of the tach. With that said, with the centri you won't be spinning at the line and you will be able to take advantage with the gradual boost build up.[&:]

RE: Vortech blower question
Yea i see what ur saying i was also thinkin well the centri will be at max at high rpm i mean when im racing i will stay high rpm the whole time where as a root style will eventually stop at high rpm certain root styles vary obviously. Also i dont see to many root styles as nears as much as i do as centri's run on the track i guess that says somethin. Not sayin that root styles arent as good but for the times that im wanting to run and still have that daily driver capability it seems thats the way i should go is centri.

Gonna need more hp than that for 11's. Full suspension mods and at least slicks.

RE: Vortech blower question
Actually 400rwhp is plenty to getting your car in the 11's. I recently bought a book called "Mustang Performance Engine Tuning" by HPBooks. It's basically a compilation of misc. Mustang Articles from various magaines.Granted you cant believe everything you read. In an article from Muscle Mustangs & Fast fords(Operation Vortech), they test a 1999 Mustang with a 70mm TB, Pro-M 80mm maf, and Cat-back and 3:73 gears. They bolt on aVortech v2 kit and it is tuned. At the dyno they register 376hp at 5600rpm and 375rwtq at 4900rpm.With a stock suspension and26X8-inch slicks they run a best of 12.009 at 112.69.Not 11's, but close.Iwill saythe car was driven by Evan Smith and testing conditions were perfectin the 60's. I got the book at Borders, for what its worth. I was impressed with the article. Granted it was driven by agreat driver. It's impressive what a mod motor will run with just a Vortech and light bolt-ons
