01 Cobra Issues
I am looking at buying a 2001 cobra and would like to know what (if any) issues tend to go along with that year of cobra. For example is the IRS prone to problems, does the engine tend to tick/knock? Does it respond well to mods? etc.
Other basic details like the HP/TQ to the crank and wheels, how much HP can the stock bottom end take - can I supercharge it without having to upgrade?
I read all the stickys and tried searching but came up with surprisingly little - I assume this was all asked before but I can't seem to track it down.
Thanks!

RE: 01 Cobra Issues
I have had mine for approx. 2 years now and have been very impressed with its reliability.
-The rear dif needs to be reinforced if you are going to push it. (here)
-The engine sounds beautiful, no knocks or ticks just make sure your oil isn't low.
-Haven't modded much, but I hear it responds quite well.
-My #s were 293 HP 314 TQ. 94 octane with K&N.
-Engine can handle 500 HP but is a time bomb. 400-450 is a safe area from what I understand. (Keep in mind this is what I have read not personal experience)
-Supercharge is a possibility but see above. I have seen a few posts where people have done it without rebuilding the engine.
As I already stated, I have not done alot of modification to mine. So, you may want a more experienced response.

RE: 01 Cobra Issues
i have had my 01 cobra for a year now. nothing is wrong with anything. if u want to supercharge it and be like an 04 cobra kenne bell makes a kit for our cars. thats what i was looking into getting. it runs 9 psi and about 470 hp. this is safe for the car with upgraded pistons and rods. the kit comes with injectors and that intercooler that goes under the supercharger to make the kit bolt right up.

RE: 01 Cobra Issues
Hey lads,
that was all excellent information, thanks for the input
Quick01 - that is a great pointer about the KB kit - I will definitely be looking into that! -> Should I buy a forged short block if I am doing this or do people just go with the stock block and buy forged internals?
Mustang3GT07 - I will make sure to get the the Brace and do the mod as soon as i buy it - hopefully!
