My friend is in the market for a 01-04 Lightning, and he keeps telling me that they come stock with 380 rwhp. Isn't that 380 flywheel HP, not wheel HP? I know the 99 and 00 lightning make 360, so he doesn't want one of those. Anyway, a 03/04 Cobra is rated at 390, but that is at flywheel. I heard they put down between 360-380 rwhp stock. I like the look of the lightning, but I couldn't drive automatic. He keeps telling me that he will smoke my 1997 GT, but my next car will be a 03/04 Cobra, my favorite car!

The 99-2000 360hp 440tq and the 01-04 is 380hp 450tq (crank) all i believe have 5.4l Eaton supercharged triton v8s. Yes they will smoke your gt they are pretty quick.

I definitely know that a Lightning will smoke my 1997 GT. LOL. I'm gonna tell him to wait until I get an 03/04 Cobra to race. The Lightning is a 5.4L SOHC 2V, while the Cobra is a 4.6 DOHC 4V. And I know they both have the Eaton roots-type s/c. But i'm more interested in the Lightning's stock rwhp #'s. He's telling me that the 380 HP rating is at the wheel, and I know it's not

There is no way its 380rwhp stock lol. Even when you get a cobra thoe, dont under estimate the lightnings they are quick!

Dont 97 GT's have a speed limit of 115 or something. Cus I had a 03 Lightning for a while and raced a 97 GT and passed him bad after 115mph. But I got rid of the Lightning cus of gas. $80 every two days. ouch lol But its pretty quick but the hEATON gets heat soaked pretty bad when that happens mid and top end suck. The only way he will beat you if you get a 03-04 cobra is if your friend does all the cooling mods, full exhaust, slaps a whipple or kenne bell 2.3/2.6 and is built. But IMO, the Cobra is the way to go. 500whp with simple exhaust, pulley change, and tune.

The 97 GT can go over 115, I've hit 120 before, the 4.6L 2V with NPI heads is just weak up there. The 5.4L is just stronger than my 97 GT.

it was one of those where they back off and gun it from 3 car lengths back. so i did a lil rabbit huntin then passed him. it was one of those "are you kidding me" races LOL
