Tuning for procharger with Sniper Tuning
I recently bought a Sniper special forces tuning kit and it has all kinds of options when creating tunes. It allows you to pick what type of s/c you have or turbo, how much boost you are running, and other features. I am picking up a Procharger P-1SC kit today and was looking for advice. The car is a 99' cobra with about 42k on the engine, stock block, heads, and intake manifolds. I was thinking of running 6 to 8 lbs of boost. Can I use the Sniper tune that I create on the computer as a good tune for the car when I put the Procharger on, or do I absolutely need to get a dyno tune?
The sniper tuner is a good way to create a tune so you can drive the car. However I HIGHLY recommend you take the car somewhere to get it tuned on a dyno. I went from 330 rwhp with a mail order sc tune from a reputable dealer to 380 rwhp from 10 minutes on a dyno. There are just some things you cant do unless you know alot about tuning. not to mention youll want it tuned for driveablity and A/F ratio to be straight.
I thought I had a good tune with an Xcal II and my friend had it dyno tuned as a gift for me and picked up more power. The dyno and a good tuner can squeeze every last ounce of power plus make it run the most efficeint.
I would highly recommend that you not tune your own blown car unless you have the experiance. If you install the blower; you should be fine as long as you baby that car to the tuner; meaning STAY OUT OF THE BOOST.
Or, you'll need a tow truck.
