yeah Im in the same situation as TWS
I actually was going to buy that car he was looking at, except the guy backed out. Told me he'd trade my Mach+bike for it then backed out said needed cash.

Now, I'm looking at this 98 cobra w/ the built block, rear, tranny, suspension.
I want something FAST to keep up with dad's z06, but I dont have the cash haha. I've been looking for a trade (my 2003 Mach 1 w/ 33K miles and bolt ons-- 300hp/320tq on MD, for a built cobra).

I came across this car and I might go for the straight trade..

I would absolutly never trade my car that's running perfectly for someone elses project. It's very rare that it works out with the project car... If you're willing to take that chance, then by all means... but I would stick with the car that's running fine...

Extra question though.. is even though it'd be a straight trade for the car.. Do you owe anything on this car? Does he owe anything on that car? Do you need to pick up anything extra loan/money wise?

i vote no...why would someone sell such a sweet car...let me tell you my story...

i was looking at a 98 cobra, prochaged built engine, had 456rwhp and he was able to prove to me it had only 30k on the motor...said he needed money cause he couldn't afford the debt anymore and so i drove 4 hours got there, looked good, sounded good and so we took it to a ford dealership to have it checked out and they came back and said the supercharger was leaking like a **** underneath, needed all new tires and brakes, and here's the best part, they estimated the engine had about half the oil in it that it needed to run properly.

GET IT CHECKED BY AN SVT CERTIFIED DEALER BEFORE PURCHASING!!!

well it was their used car buyer inspection...i think it was $100 well worth the money, cause the car ran fine and didn't overheat and i would have bought it had it not been for all that and it probly wouldn't have made it home so yea, well worth it

That helps a little bit...

But, if your car is paid off and it runs ok... then leave it at that.. and just add on to your own car as you know the road it's taken... yeah, it's going to cost more to mod yours yourself... but, you don't want to buy someones project that's just going to cost a ton more money in the end...

This is not a great time to shake things up with your finances.. with the stocks and economy the way it is... the last thing you wanna do is screw yourself..

gna have it checked out by an SVT dealer like mentioned above, and go get a compression test done.
If everything checks out I might have to go for it!
