Default 01 cobra

Hey guys I want to sell my GT for a cobra, can't afford a Terminator so I'm really looking at an '01. What do you guys think about that year compared to earlier, say a '98? I know the '01 has more power and the new edge body style is so much better to me. Read the '99 was recalled and didn't achieve the power, so anyone have an '01? Any feedback would be great. Thanks!

There are actually a lot of options you have 96-98 Cobra, 99/01 Cobra, and even the 03/04 Mach 1.. they're all great choices.

The 99 and 01' have the 28 spline IRS, whereas the Mach and 96-98 Cobra has the SRA (among other differences)... do you prefer one type of body style over the other? How much do you have to spend?

Most '99s had a recall performed and now make the claimed power, and you can find then a little cheaper than '01s. The IRS is good so dont be discouraged and get a car you dont like as much just for the SRA. Also, the '01s have different interiors and a 6-disc CD player.

the '96-'98 cobras made less power than the newer Cobras ('99-'01).

car insurance will be almost double the monthly payment for a Mach 1 over a '96-01 Cobra.

I say go for a new edge Cobra, and def. look into '99s to save a little coin over the '01s.......but I'm a little biased.

Slowbra.. the insurance thing isn't true. That really depends on you and location.. for instance... My 05' V6 that I had was more expensive then my 04' GT.. my 03' Cobra was about 20 bucks more per month then my 04' GT.. and my 03' Mach 1 is half of any of them. Now also, keep in mind.. I was 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24 years old with all of them...

V6 = approx. 250 p/m (geico)
GT = approx. 240 p/m (Geico)
Cobra = Approx. 255 a month (Geico and Esurance -- was just about the same)
Mach 1 = 135 p/m (current insurance premium). (Esurance)

So this is my recent insurance history personally with the cars... Now, you may have an exact opposite experience; but everyone is different so it's hard to say that one car will be more then the other.

I'd go for the 1999 cobra.

I'd rather have the Mach 1... or a 98 over the 99/01 Cobras personally... The IRS just isn't worth the weight, or hassle.

Get an 01 cobra!! They are so much nicer than the 99's... You get the 6 disc changer, you get the leather/suede Cobra interior as well, and the tr3650 trans is better than the t45... You also get a better looking spoiler, the rear bumper actually says "cobra", the darker headlights (black backgroud created the "smoked" effect), and yeah.. You'll be happier with the 01 cobra...

Absolutly go with the 01 cobra. I was in the same predicament you were in 3 months ago. I read about all of the recalls on the 99's and decided not to get one. I too couldn't afford a termi. So I looked into the 01's and got one. I love it. I have no complaints. With the mean sleek look and leather suede interior you cant go wrong for the prices.

Thanks everyone! Yeah I looked into the differences between the 99 and 01 and the 01 has the 6 CD changer (not a big deal but nice) but I love the leather/suede seats and "cobra" on the rear. The spoiler is better too IMO. As far as insurance goes, I'm 32 with a great driving record and I pay $75 a month for full coverage with a $500 deductable on my 2000 GT with Allstate. Been that much for several years, it blows my mind when I see what people pay for insurance. Would it really go up that much if I upgraded to a non-supercharged cobra (non-vert)? After I sell my GT I'll be able to finance a 01 cobra easily, just want to make sure it's a great car to be proud of. Thanks for the advice everyone, hoping to join the SVT family soon!
