Default Cobra intake inlet question

Hope someone can answer this one. I have a 97 cobra with a 65 mm BBK throttle body. Today I was changing my spark plugs and noticed a piece of plastic inside the intake tube, about 4 inches before the TB. I just bought the car a couple of weeks ago so I'm still trying to get to know the car. It looks to be home made. It was taped in there. I'm not sure why it was there, maybe to create some air velosity. I took it out and the car ran different as when I got on the gas, it hesitated a little. I put it back in an it ran fine without hesitation. Is this a requirement with the bigger TB. I don't think the cars been tuned yet.
Does anyone no what the heck this may be, I'm lost. Any help would be great. Thanks

I have never heard of anything like that... try taking it out, disconnected and reconnecting the battery to let it reset... other then that, i have no idea..

Could you post a picture of it?

Something wierd like that I wouldn't even bother with. You don't want to get mixed up with a previous owners goofy mods like that. Who knows whats going on. I would try what xxkaz3rxx recommended. Thats saved my a!! many times with my job. If that doesn't work I would just go get a JLT intake. I'm assuming its still the stock inlet.

Sorry can't get a pic

But I did take this plastic piece out and disconnected the battery and reconnected it. The car runs better now, I think I need a tune though. So much done to the car with the stock tune. Thanks everyone who replied.
