Default 98 SVT

I decided instead of putting every penny I make into my 5.0 I would just save a little bit and look into getting a sn95 cobra. I rather have a 96-98 cobra than a 99-04 gt and they are close in price, but the sn95 cobra weighs less, has more power, and looks better IMO.

I was just wondering how these motors respond to simple bolt ons. We all know the 2v is **** for bolt ons and you don't get any power unless you have power adders. I would love to just slap a vortech on it and be done but right now I don't have that much money. Im looking at a 98 w/ 90k miles which is a bit much for me, but it is immaculate and I wouldn't buy it otherwise. Do you guys think 350 hp at the crank is possible with bolt ons? Just trying to get some info on the cobra and see what they're capable of.

First off what kinda 5.0 do you have? IDK if you know or not but 5.0's are one of the cheapest motors to build and make power out of. If it were me I would either get a 98 cobra or just keep your 5.0, screw the 2v.

Well i know they are easy to mod ( I have a 94 ) and are cheap, but every a total h/c/i swap I won't break 300 horse. I saw Summit did a 5.0 and a fully built 347 only made like 330 or 350. Plus mine is getting up there in miles. I really just want a cobra, and no way I would get a 2v.

yeah if your bolt ons include Long Tubes then yeah you could PROBABLY see 350 to the crank or damn close. Stock there rated @ 305 to the crank, which i'd say is about right, really with some 4.10s (gears) and full bolt ons you'll have a fun little car.

Stick with your plan and look for a 96-98 Cobra...there's some good deals out there right now...just need to shop around and take your time!

Thanks guys. I really think its a lot smarter to just get a sn95 cobra instead of a 99-04 GT. They have more power, weigh less, and have a lot more potential with the 4v.

How hard is it to do headers on a 4v. The motor is pretty crammed in there...

From what I've heard, if you don't have much hands on experience, LT headers in the 4v cars are quite a pain to change. If you don't really mind the body style, I'd say go for a 99/01 4v, they are better motors to mildly mod than the older 96-98 4v. But if you're looking for a 96-98 4v car for really cheap, you could buy my 96 GT w/ a 96 4v in it haha
