Default is there a difference

Is there a difference between a 1996 cobra and a 1996 svt cobra if so what is the difference or is there no such thing

I only ask because I might be getting a 1996 mustang cobra (I know it needs work because I drove it and it took a bit to get it to 60(I was in fourth gear getting ready to shift to fifth)

Cobra is the same as SVT are the same thing. It shouldn't take long to get to 60 though.

Only the '03-04 Cobra's came factory with a SC (as does the Shelby Cobra's)...

I know that it feels like it needs maintinance and I am pretty sure it does based off of the fact that the girl that owned it did not do much for maintinance, it would not suprise me if the original plugs were still in there

as for if it is a clone I will need to look at it a little closer

Run the VIN # ...that will tell you if it's a Cobra or not!

i was thinking the same thing.

as for checking if its a clone otherwise. Check the steering wheel it should say Cobra on it, there SHOULD be an SVT badge on the back mine has an SVT badge under the CD player idk if that one is stock or not. The rear bumper should also say Cobra not Mustang.

If all else fails pop the hood, the intake manifold has a snake plaque on it.

These are all ways to tell if you can't just pop the hood and recognize the DOHC 4v.

If you still don't know by looking at all these things ask the owner to pop off a valve cover if he starts getting nervous its fake, there should be 2 cams under EACH valvecover. (4 total)

the intake and valve covers on the cobra are aluminum and the gt is a black plastic with an aluminum elbow on the intake if its stock. svt cars also have round fog lights and the gt has oval. the brakes on the cobra say cobra on them too. the 96 gt's 8th vin # should be a 'W' for romeo gt.
