01-04 Cobra trans question
Hey guys I am looking for a 6 speed out of a cobra, and wanted to get the strongest trans that was offered in the car. My question is, were the 6 speeds in 01-04 all the same, or did the supercharged cobras have a stronger t56 then the 01 and 02's?

Oh I thought they did, I pretty much assumed that they had the 6 speed, can anyone confirm this? Ifthats the case I guess I'm lookign at 02-04 then. Also I'd love to get a Cobra R trans if it's stronger, but IIRC they only made 299 of them and I am sure it would cost a pretty penny if I even found one that someone was parting out.

ah ok so I need a supercharged cobra trans. Cool. Sounds like stock should be good for me at least for now, I'm making probably no more then 400hp and 450ft lbs and I don't foresee many more mods in the future. I have been debating a 150hp wetshot though which would put me over the hp levels of the stock tranny. How much is it to rebuild one of them with stronger internals?

Stock Terminator T56's are RATED up to 450 lbs/ft torque, BUT there are PLENTY that have gone way past that level. With JUST an 26 spline input shaft, my t56 was holding my 700 lbs/ft of torque just fine... The stock 10 spline input shaft is the FIRST thing to go, in the tranny... Many have twisted them, with as little as 500 rwhp...
There are a handful of 9 sec Cobras running a stock T56, with JUST the input shaft/clutch upgrade...

Sounds like the input shaft change is a good idea then, so where is a good place to get a new input shaft for these things? If I change the input shaft do you guys think the tranny will hold up to hard launches with drag slicks?
