Unhappy Cobra Horror Story

Well, I finally found a 99 Cobra for $4800, 115,000 miles, perfect interior, but needed a repainted front bumper and also a timing chain tensioner. The Ford dealer told me the car was ok to drive so I was on my way home. I was happy and singing and listening to the flowmaster x pipe, no catalytic converters, and super 44's under me while never taking it over 3000 rpm doing 60 on the highway when something happened. Something bad. The car jerked and would not run. I coasted into the gas station, called a tow truck, and then wept uncontrolably on the female attendant, only to find out when my eyes cleared she was 50. Not 19. I rode in the truck, sick as a dog, to the Ford dealer near me. They said they thought it was only the timing chain. Ok, good. The next day, they called me and I quote, " Yer motor's toast dude". I lost it. Now, after a few therapy sessions, I can talk about it. I found a mechanic that cut me a deal. New 32 valve 4.6 installed for $4,100. I am now waiting and recovering. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Anybody have a good weekend?

Well, just so the new engine install goes off without a hitch, you've now got a 99 Cobra that cost you under $9,000.

Enjoy it bud.

I dont know where you are, but your state probably has a lemon law. Even if it has no warranty, it cant have a major malfunction within x # of days, usually 30 days or so. I'd look into it. I mean you knew it had bad timing, which was a dead give away that it was a dud, but that doesnt excuse a dealer selling you junk, unless it was in writing that you knew it was junked up.

I took it to Ford before I bought it and they said the timing was not off, just the tensioner making noise and they said it was fine to drive home. Oh well. The new motor should be here in 2 weeks.

i would bitch out that dealership for telling you you can drive home, if you have any paperwork reguarding the matter you might be able to get them to pay for the new motor.

No dice. I had the paper saying that the only problem was the tensioner but the "you can drive it home" was free advice. I work for the city here in Jefferson City, MO and I talked to the city attorney. My luck.

The dealer was in Quincy Il. I bought the car in Canton MO. I found a motor, rebuilt by Ford with the front cover, oil pump and oil pan for $3150 and comes with a 3 year, 100,000 mile warranty from Power Source. Tellman auto repair will do the labor for $50/h in 17 hours. I am looking at just over $4300. Email me personally at fatsgabriel@gmail.com I want to meet some other people that know about mustangs. You ever go to the cruise in?
