yes there is a chance you can find a clone if its a one owner they will have the build date and car number paper work and a letter from svt with there name on it some people like to keep them but you can call ford and they will tell you if the car is a real svt all you need is the vin # it was a ford site online where all you gotta do is type in the vin and it will tell you what kind of car it is let me see if i can find it real fast and i will send the link

Any particular characters in the VIN so I can tell if it's a cobra on the fly? Like "the 8th digit is an X" or something?

The low mile cobras are out their. I bought mine 1 1/2 years ago with only 11,000 miles and it was 100% stock. Mine also came with all the orig paper work including the svt certificate. Here is a good website that will answer all your questions if someone hasent posted it already.

Thanks - I'll stay optimistic. The two 2003s I had a line on did not work out. Both felt like they had led rough lives and their finishes reflected it - more of a consequence of being a daily driver than anything, I'm sure.

I walked away wondering if I am going to have to buy something new to meet my expectations...

Your best bet is to sign up over on svtperformance.com

They have a great classifieds section with alot of great cobras for sale that have low miles and adult owned. You have to be willing to travel for what you want also. I went about 6hrs away for mine.
