Default What do you consider beating a car?

If I am running the rpm's up to 4-4,500 rpms is that considered beating the car? I want my car to last a long time but I don't want to drive like a grandma. If I'm just cruising around I shift at 3000 rpms in hopes to not beat the car.
Sorry for the lame question!!

There's a guy with a mach around here that I've seen for the past two years who beats the car to death at every light, and his car runs like new

maybe he's lucky..maybe not..i dont know

i have a 550rwhp 2003 GT with 103,000 miles on the clock. I've beat the living snot out of it every chance i get. Now, i've upgraded a LOT of parts. but the only things I've replaced on my car because of wear, damage or total part failure has been a seized brake caliper and my alternator.

Just baby the car when its in your driveway...meaning just do all the routine maitenance and address minor issues before they become big problems. Then beat the **** out of her on the road Its a mustang, not a rolls royce....

^---nice i agree its meant to be driven, no matter wat car i own i will drive it how its spose to be driven. i get on mine quite a bit, not from a stop to much tho, i try to make the tires last more then 2 months seeing that they are soo dam expensive. i like having the car in its power range so it jumps and goes when i want, i never had the car past 7k rpms and my redline is from 6500 to 8000 so as long as maintenance is kept up the occasional donut session and chirping of the tires wont hurt

but to answer the ? for you 4k isnt anything bad for our cars. the IMRC valves dont even open until 3250 so the engine isnt even trying until then our power range is roughly between 3K-6k i believe so right in there is where the engine is performing at its best, may not be the most efficient but it is making the most power so for just cruising ya its fine to shift lower but dont be afraid to have some fun

...now i want to go light em up and whip sh!ttys

if you dont have a lemon, these cars have no problem taking the abuse assuming you keep maintenince up and the normal stuff. my friend beats the crap out of his bullitt. i mean powershifting..burnouts..rev limiter...everything and it runs great. had a bad coil pack and the rear end went out but what do you expect from a car with 138k that has been driven so hard? i tihnk the sycros are gone in it too but thats from powershifting.
