Quick Tune Up Question
OK, this will be my first time doing any work on my 99, but tomorrow I have to change the oil, and I'll probably check, drain and refill the radiator fluid. The car is about to roll over at 59000 miles, so I know it's got to be getting close to needing new spark plugs, so I'll probably do those too. Here is my question, what about ignition coil plugs, how long can they go before needing to be replaced? Reason I ask is cause they're expensive as hell, well when compared to my 5.0 which wires run about $70-100. Also, would I see any gains from a set of accell wires, or not over stock? I know on a 5.0 and a V6 there are no gains what so ever by going from a stock distributer or ignition coil pack to an aftermarket, just wanted to know if the same held true for a 4V.
Oh, one other question, what spark plugs are the best to use. Copper tipped, platinum, or what? Again, I know the 5.0 and 3.8L engines don't like platinum plugs in stock/near stock form, didn't know if same held true for the 4V.
When I was in auto tech school, our teacher hooked up 8 spark plugs of all different types and screwed them into a metal plate. Then with a distributor he sent current to them all and they all sparked the same, no matter how many prongs, and made of whatever material.
Of course not all are made equal, but I don't think its really going to matter which ones you go with, unless your turbo-ed or s/c'd. I have seen most people on here use NGK. They are fine plugs for the price. Iridium is pricey, I would just go platinum tipped.
The stock COP's are pretty tough, and I have seen some people have some less than favorable luck with aftermarket ones. If they fire, I would keep 'em.

Well just checked everything out. The spark plugs are NGK copper tipped plugs and look brand new, the ignition coils look brand new as well. Then I remebered, oh yea, that's a brand new engine in my car, previous owner blew the old one lol.
